DINOSAURS - A TOPICAL COLLECTION

What is a Dinosaur?

This simple definition distinguishes dinosaurs from all other animals. The most important feature that set them apart from their contemporaries was their upright stance. Dinosaurs evolved a window in the hip socket and a right-angled bend at the top of the thigh bone which enabled them to walk with straight legs tucked under the body to support the weight. These characteristics are shared by all dinosaurs and confirm that they all belong together in one group – the Dinosauria – the name which was invented by Richard Owen about 160 years ago.
